Hello, my name is Sally, welcome to my website.

I am an artist based in Dorset in the UK. I spend a lot of time walking in the local forests, through the heathlands and along the beaches and most of the things I see inspire the work I make.

I have had a fascination with nature, especially seashells, for as long as I can remember. There’s always something new to learn and I’ve found that drawing not only helps me to remember things but also records a day and a place in far more detail than I had noticed before.

In December 2025 I completed an MA in Illustration with Falmouth University. I had previously studied Fine Art and Textiles for GCSE, Fine Art and Photography for A Level, before doing a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and a BA in Modelmaking. Studying such a wide variety of skills has given me a broad knowledge of materials and techniques which I incorporate in to my work. Currently I am exploring printmaking as a member of Poole Printmakers.

My Process

My art practice has evolved over the years to focus on being outside to gather my own source materials and inspiration. I use my knowledge of photography to take my own reference photos, I attend life drawing classes regularly which has deepened my observation skills and speed, I use my knowledge of textiles to make my own equipment- most recently a drawing mitt to keep my hand warm whilst allowing me to hold a pencil or paintbrush outside in the middle of winter, and I make my own paint from found materials.

I often use watercolour paints in my work as well as coloured pencils and goache. I love to include traditional hand skills in my work which for me makes the work about the process as much as the finished piece.

I draw outside in my nature journal on a regular basis and this is something which I have encouraged others to try through running workshops showing people how to do it themselves.

Made By Human Hands

All of my work is handmade by me using real materials. I do not give permission under any circumstances for my work to be used for the development of AI. I love the tactile nature of honing a craft and seeing something grow that I have nurtured with my time and patience. I’m passionate about sharing my skills and experience with others to deepen our connection to the living world.
